The day saw 15,000 visitors to the Fontajau Pavilion, with a positive balance, a host of activities and sporting events featuring world champions with spectacular track records

After just two days, the Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava-Girona Bike Show has already met expectations as to total number of visitors (20,000) thanks to a comprehensive selection of events and activities which have drawn thousands of people to the festival and, throughout Saturday, filled the various expo, activity, exhibition and event areas.

The exhibiting companies expressed their satisfaction with the high influx of visitors and the economic activity generated during the day, thus confirming predictions that their presence in Girona would be a fantastic business opportunity and help promote their brand.

A great many people also turned out for the Bike Test, in which 24 of the cycling world’s finest brands organise guided rides down a track designed especially for visitors to try out the models that most capture their attention.

Visitors started filling the festival grounds first thing in the morning and were particularly numerous in the afternoon, in which over 10,000 people were treated to exhibitions, children’s activities and a series of competitive events, most notably the Scott Marathon by Taymory and Ghost Marathon MTB & E-Bike. These events gave spectators the opportunity to see a number of world champions and top-level athletes from a host of different cycling disciplines up close and personal: Perikilis Elias, Tiago Ferreira, Jiri Novak and José Antonio Hermida, Francesc Guerra and female champions Marga Fullana, Clàudia Galicia and Norway’s Jeanette Persson. The various races highlighted the internationalisation of the festival’s sporting line-up, which in this the first edition has drawn accomplished cyclists from around the world.

Visitors also flocked to the competition zone to see the final of the Catalan Cup trial competition, in which world champions such as Abel Moliest and Benito Ros showed off their skills on a highly demanding track.

A number of internationally renowned riders were also in attendance, such as Joaquim “Purito” Rodríguez, Cedric Gracia, David Millar, Dan Craven and also David Valero and Pablo Rodríguez, two of the most outstanding domestic riders on the international scene, and who are both scheduled to take part in the Biking Point International Catalan Cup tomorrow.

Today also saw a number of other competitions, such as the Pirinexus 360 Challenge, a 350km challenge across the Girona Region, and the children’s descent to Forallac, among others.

Tomorrow will mark the third and final day of Sea Otter Europe, which at 3pm will close its doors on a first edition that can already be considered a huge success.
