226ERS UCI Gravel World Series Sea Otter Europe: the world’s best gravel arrives with a new route on September 19

The event is one of the highlights of the Shimano Sea Otter Europe Girona-Costa Brava by Garmin international cycling festival.
The best riders on the planet and amateur participants will all take part in this revamped edition.

The most important competition on the gravel calendar will once again return to Girona on September 19. The Shimano Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava-Girona by Garmin international cycling festival will host this event for the third consecutive edition. The race brings together both the best riders on the planet, who battle for a spot in the World Championship, and amateur participants, who experience the race as a challenge in the incomparable setting of Girona alongside the best specialists in the discipline.

The main novelty is the revamped route, which is presented as one of the biggest attractions of the event, aiming to surpass the success of the first two editions.

The race is a perfect opportunity to enjoy unique scenery and a unique route, as well as a luxury occasion to share the starting grid with some of the best specialists on the planet.

As part of the UCI Gravel World Series, the event is also open to amateurs, who can compete by age group and aim to finish among the top 25% in their category, which grants direct access to the World Championship.

A route with more flow: fast and captivating

The new route features a distance of 109km with 940m of positive elevation gain. The Càrniques de Juià (Juià) venue will be the starting point, and riders will immediately face a long climb: 5.2km at an average gradient of 6.2%. This ascent will select the favorites and lead to the technical descent of Coll de Llumeneres (KM21).

The race will head through forests and green landscapes. The fast tracks at KM 41 will pick up the group’s speed. The Mas Llunes climb (KM 83) could decide the race before reaching the final technical sections of the day.

The route will feature a short but tough climb (KM 100) that could be decisive before finishing inside the Shimano Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava-Girona by Garmin cycling festival.

A unique experience at the biggest cycling festival

Being part of the 226ERS UCI Gravel World Series at Sea Otter Europe means enjoying a top-level gravel event within a festival that brings together the best brands, cyclists, and industry professionals; all in a large expo area and with multiple activities for all audiences, the event has established itself as a benchmark in the cycling world.
