La Tramun -organized by Club BTT Fornells- and Sea Otter Europe partner to present one of the year’s major sporting events
The race will attract the best specialists in the discipline and make the festival even more international
Next year’s Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava-Girona will host a Cross Country Marathon (XCM) World Cup event. The event is part of the Sea Otter Europe sports program and adopts the route of La Tramun, the popular MTB race with over 25 years of history. Thanks to this alliance, the race will now become a mandatory fixture in the calendar for the best riders in the discipline, who will have to battle through the incomparable trails surrounding one of the world’s great cycling capitals. The race, named La Tramun Sea Otter Europe, will feature the wooded landscapes of Girona, La Garrotxa, Vall d’Hostoles, and Vall del Llémena as the setting for this global event.
The prestige of a World Cup event will be a new draw for the Sea Otter Europe festival, which is increasing its commitment to being an international reference and warmly welcomes the arrival of the XCM World Cup. It will be one of the last events on the calendar, so it is very likely that La Tramun Sea Otter Europe will be decisive for the general classification.
This announcement raises the bar for a sports program of recognized global interest, which will also feature the UCI Gravel World Series for the second consecutive year.
The president of the Girona Provincial Council and the Costa Brava Girona Tourism Board, Miquel Noguer, celebrates the arrival of the World Cup event, stating that it “will help us excel in positioning the Costa Brava and Girona as premier cycling destinations. This event will be a new incentive for competitors and cycling enthusiasts. For visitors, it will also be a unique opportunity to discover the scenic, cultural, and gastronomic attractions of the Costa Brava and the Girona Pyrenees. We confirm that the Sea Otter Europe Costa Brava-Girona festival is consolidating after eight editions and is becoming an extraordinary catalyst for international sporting events, as well as a magnet for the elite in various cycling disciplines.”
This event will bring great benefits and attract visitors and cycling enthusiasts to the city of Girona. Deputy Mayor Gemma Geis states that “it is exciting that Sea Otter Europe is incorporating new events and growing as an event, committing to highlighting the natural heritage of Girona and its surroundings.” For his part, the sports councilor, Àdam Bertran, points out that “from the Girona City Council, the sports department is committed to top-tier sporting events in the city that provide added value and promote grassroots sports. The fact that the world’s best cyclists come to Girona once again positions the city as a sporting success, and our commitment to becoming a benchmark for elite and grassroots sports is working.”
This is La Tramun Sea Otter Europe Girona: 78 km and 2,800 m of positive elevation gain
La Tramun Sea Otter Europe Girona is defined by two concepts: tough and captivating. The race offers a spectacular route, marked by the enormous number of trails that make up the circuit, starting in Les Planes d’Hostoles (Garrotxa) and finishing in Girona. The trails, which have turned the city of Girona into a cycling pilgrimage site, are the main protagonists of a course that tests the physical condition and technical skills of the riders.
The XCM World Cup will accommodate both competitors in the Elite category and those holding an UCI Master license. Additionally, the organization will also offer the possibility to participate in the Open category.
Furthermore, the Marathon Cup MTB remains in the festival’s sports program and will make its final stop of the championship at Sea Otter Europe 2025, so anyone who wishes can continue to enjoy the championship’s usual offerings: long distance (60 km) and short distance (40 km) – both options also for Pro and Open categories.
The route of La Tramun Sea Otter Europe, with 78 km and 2,800 meters of positive elevation gain, is of incomparable appeal. The start will take place in Les Planes d’Hostoles. The mayor of the municipality, Marc Puig, is very satisfied with the news and states that “for the town, it is very important due to the positive impact” of the race, as well as a demonstration of the council’s commitment to sporting events.
Riders will delve into an endless succession of trails, in a transition that will go from the volcanic surroundings of La Garrotxa to the Mediterranean forests surrounding Girona. The first part of the race will be marked by demanding ascents, while the second will feature a long and steep descent, leading to the finish line with a cumulative negative descent of 3,150 meters.
The route is a sure bet, as it will be the same as La Tramun, the emblematic race organized by Club BTT Fornells.
The finish line will be located within the exhibition grounds of Sea Otter Europe, with a large audience awaiting the arrival of the cyclists, as part of one of the world’s most important international cycling festivals, which will be held in Girona on September 19-20-21. The event is supported by the Girona City Council, the Girona Provincial Council, the General Secretariat for Sport, and the Catalan Cycling Federation.
